Chairman John Brownless helps raise awareness of prostate cancer through Leeds United Foundation partnership

August 3, 2026

Raising awareness of prostate cancer and encouraging more open conversations about men's health was the focus of a recent visit by our LitmusFM Chairman, John Brownless, who volunteered with Prostate Cancer UK at the Leeds United Foundation.

John joined Foundation participants at both the Veterans' Café andthe Ups & Downs Café, where he delivered informative sessions designed to increase understanding of prostate cancer, including the risk factors, symptoms and the importance of early detection.

John has been supporting Prostate Cancer UK for many years, following his own diagnosis when he was 42. He has dedicated his time to raising awareness of the disease and fundraising for the charity. To date, his efforts have helped generate more than £200,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

As a volunteer speaker for the charity, John regularly shares his knowledge and experiences to help people better understand a disease that affects one in eight men in the UK. The sessions also provided an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, share their own experiences and discuss a topic that is often overlooked or pushed to one side.

John Brownless, Chairman of Litmus FM, said: Supporting Prostate Cancer UK is something I'm incredibly passionate about. Every opportunity to talk openly about prostate cancer helps break down barriers and encourages people to take their health seriously. It was a privilege to spend time with the fantastic groups at the Leeds United Foundation and see how engaged everyone was in the discussions. If just one person leaves a session feeling more informed or decides to get checked because of what they've heard, then it's been worthwhile.”

The sessions formed part of Prostate Cancer UK's wider work to improve awareness of the disease and encourage men to understand their personal risk. Around 55,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK every year, making it the most common cancer in men.

John's visit also highlighted the important role that community organisations such as the Leeds United Foundation play in supporting health and wellbeing, creating welcoming spaces where people feel comfortable discussing topics that can often be difficult to raise.

We’re incredibly proud of John's ongoing work with Prostate Cancer UK and his commitment to raising awareness of this important cause. His efforts continue to help educate communities, encourage earlier conversations and support better health outcomes for men across the UK.
